A couple of weeks ago the sky above Palo Alto turned an amazing colour. This is a clean shot, no mucking about in Aperture. It only lasted a few minutes so we where lucky to see it.

Took this with a new 90mm f2 lens, its a bit of a struggle to focus when opened up and I had quite a few out of focus ones.

Presidio riding club is north of San Francisco, we stopped off to take a picture of their massive barn and Amber popped out to say hello.

Spotted this little house on a tree stump. It has no particular purpose it just is, and thats why I love it.

There are many ways to craft a life outside the 9-5. Food is an important part of the equation and this chickens job is egg production.

Healdsburg is north of San Francisco in the wine district. Well known in Healdsburg are the hotels bright green bikes. A great way to explore the wonderful town and grape fields.

Perhaps this is a selfish post, but I love what a great lens can do to an image. In this case a interesting blur for background that amplifies the color and sharpness of the flower. I was reading how to use this at night in reverse, color background blurred to amplify foreground. Will keep looking for a shot to try that out.

In England, where I grew up, you get around in a car or train. Personal planes, and the ability to land practically anywhere feels like a very new and extravagant treat. Our friend treated us this weekend and here in the US where distances are monster it enables a wonderful freedom. I’m left pondering though, perhaps instead of packing our days should make the time to experience the wonderful distance or with the pace of our lives would we never do it ?

The Baylands nature preserve is a short cycle ride from Palo Alto. It is a terrific resource for birds, humans and photographers. This shot, towards NASA, catches a cyclist taking a rest on a rare gloomy day.
